INSPIRED BY SUMMER DISTRESS

...creativity is the greatest rebellion in existence...
- Osho -

...hello everyone...over at Simon Says Stamp & Show they are asking for us to Be Inspired by Summer Distress...well it just so happens I have put the finishing touches to a shabby chic piece I've been working on which has these very colours in it...

...I painted this lump of wood with a thick cream emulsion then went over it with a crackle medium then again with the cream emulsion which i'd watered down by 20% it bring the crackle through more this way...

...onto randomly torn regular brown packing paper the home sweet home sentiment was written by hand with black ink and edged with pickled raspberry...

...the papers used to make up these sweet little houses are mainly from my minds eye and basic grey, the rest is from my stash...

...a close up of the little randon torn hearts...

...this shot shows the colour of the ink a bit better (I really must invest in a better camera) but still not to their vibrant best...salty ocean is one of the nicest blues Tim has created, it is heavenly & mowed lawn is much more vibrant...
...my Daughter is 38 weeks pregnant with my first Grandchild and I have made this piece for  the nursery...

...I had fun making this stand alone piece, I hope you like it...
...thank you for dropping by today, a big thank you to my followers old and new for being here and your encouraging words...

  2. I don't think it's your camera that's a problem Mel, the photos look fab, it's this flippin awful UK weather we are being subjected to, although I do believe that I see a bit of sun out of your window!!

Anyway, fabulous piece of wood, love how you've crackled it and those houses are wonderful. I see you've managed to include your signatory hearts too - nice one

  3. Love the crackle background and the little houses are just perfect. Sometimes no matter how good you camera is, the colours just don't come out right...They look fine to me...I have the summer set, so I know what they look like in real life.

  5. Hi Mel, this is just so perfect for a nursery, it has blue and pink so will suit either. Love the little houses and that amazing background and of course, the hearts (your trademark now I think). You should enter it into Our Creative Corner where the theme is recycled and a pop of green, both of which fit your piece. We (that's the royal we) are expecting too (the 4th) but yours is so close - lovely feeling and it doesn't diminish with numbers! Crafty hugs, Anne x

  10. Love the colors and the repetition of the houses, and that you put it all on a piece of wood...FABULOUS!! I thought of you today, one of the artist hung his pictures up in the gallery today and it was this beautiful fox sunbathing on a rock next to some water. Which got me to thinking, do you collect foxes? waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

  24. Mel, even though I'm not into all that TH ink, I've very, very, very impressed by your "lump" of wood. You did a fantastic job. I'm super impressed and really like the crackle effect you got. I know your daughter is going to love it. Perfect for the nursery.

  25. Hurrah - you're back (I've been missing your great work)... and how!! This is simply gorgeous! I love your shabby houses, and the weathering on the colours (which I have to confess I find a bit too full on in their full glory, but I'm not a Brights person, it seems!). Delicious crackl, and the torn hearts are simply lovely. So in love with it...
