INK HEART

...it is the marriage of the soul with nature that makes the intellect fruitful, and gives birth to imagination...
- Henry David Thoreau -

...hello everyone today i'm sharing with you a wooden block, which can hang or stand alone, I've been waiting for the right piece of wood to come along so I could make this piece, it is picture heavy but I wanted you to see the textures...

...I first painted this block of wood with a chalky white emulsion then added a fine crackle finish, I had to do this 3 times in random area's to get the effect I was looking for...

...once I was happy I then went around the edges with Frayed Burlap, Walnut & Black Soot Distress Inks pushing into the paint, especially in the cracks...

...the layers of crackle give different effects...

...the faux leather straps are held in place with upholstery nails, I had to drill the holes first as these nails are long...

...this plywood heart has had many layers of ink, Barn Door & Black Soot and crackle medium in random patches, again layered...

...I made the wire mesh from scratch with a thick gauge galvanised wire & secured it in place upholstery staples...here is a pick of the mesh before I attached it...

...I'm obsessed with hearts and pleased with the result of this one, I hope you like it...
...I'm putting this in for...
