SUNBURST

- Live life as though everything is rigged in your favour - Rumi

...Hello everyone...

...it's been so nice to have a DecoArt play day, lots of mess & lots of fun...

...I've created an 8'' by 10'' canvas and 3 mini media boards by Tando-Creative to share with you using Andy Skinner's Sunburst Stencil/Mask and paints and mediums from the DecoArt Media Line...
...I have to say I have stepped right out of my comfort zone and loved it!...

...the fluid acrylics have an amazingly high colour pigment, that give a wonderful vibrancy and add great depth...

...the crackle paint adds thousands of teeny tiny crackles, which come to life when the paint, misters and water flows into them high-lighting their amazing formation...

...lots of circles, hand drawn along with splodges and splatters, no rules...

...tiny fissurs...

...loving this stencil/mask by Andy-Skinner...

...this canvas had been gesso'd, then crackle paint was spread randomly with a pallet knife to add texture...modeling paste was mixed with colour and spread over the stencil...

...liquid glass was added over the top of the dried modeling paste...

...paint, misters and water were layered, dried and layered again, endless possibilities, the Quinacridone Magenta is ahhhhmazing and my new fave colour! I'm a blue girl but this vibrant colour changes when mixed with water etc to become a delicious raspberry I love it...

...the light captured the liquid glass, love this stuff it's so versatile...

...I used black & white Pitt Pens to add some whimsical scribbles to define borders...

...all the pinky tones are Quinacridone Magenta in various stages of dilution, ahhhhmazing colour! I hope you find time to have some fun and see where the paint takes you, sorry these piccys are slightly blurry (think I may need an eye check lol!)...

50 SHADES of GREY

...hearts are wild creatures, that's why our ribs are cages...

...hello peeps...well, you may of heard that an adaptation of a certain book/trilogy hit the big screens this weekend and so I thought I'd give you my take on 50 Shades of Grey...

...if you'd like to re-create a similar look here is a simple step-by-step guide...
...I already had some chunky blocks coated in Gesso for future projects...

...next up the paint, I love a flat matt finish so DecoArts Chalky Finish was my choice...

...one all over coat of Everlasting & dry brushed random swipes of Carbon...

...50/50 mixture of black Modeling Paste & white Crackle Paste...this was then spread over DecoArts Distressed Harlequin Stencil...

...a nice spreadable texture which does not seep under the stencil...

...this was repeated on all sides of the block and dried with the aid of a heat tool...

...I brushed some Everlasting paint over the block to reveal the cracks and wiped back with paper towel...then the random spritzing of Shimmer Mist in white and Carbon Black...

...this looks scary but don't worry, roll paper towel back and forth over the surface, the paint merges together beautifully...then the entire block was coated in One Step Crackle and left to dry over night (don't use a heat tool on this product or it will blister & bubble and not give the desired effect)...once completely dry the magic begins...I mixed 50/50 paint in Vintage and Carbon and using a stubby brush, pushed the paint into the tiny crackles and immediately wiped back with paper towel...

...this was repeated over the whole block...then I added a heart from the Spellbinders collection...

...no need for any priming, the Chalky Finish Paint adheres beautifully to the metal, Everlasting was dabbed on with the stubby brush for movement...

...then some Fluid Acrylic in Silver...when dry the heart was covered in One Step Crackle and left to dry...

...the left over paint combo from earlier was again pushed into all the tiny fissures to reveal the luscious little crackles, when dry the heart and the entire block were then given a coating of Ultra Matt Varnish (I love this stuff!!)...

...the heart was attached to the block with sticky foam tape and secured more firmly with black jute twine...some finishing touches in the form of Tim Holtz Ideaology (the feet, faucet knob & identity tag)...

...some over all piccys...

...a few little additions, a Spellbinders Heart filled with glitter chips and covered in Liquid Glass and some keys given the Iron Texture_Fierro treatment...

...well that's my 50 Shades of Grey...I hope you like...

...these products can give great texture and dimension to your projects, I hope you have fun experimenting...
